A Midsummer Night's Dream: Abridged & Illustrated with Review Questions - Wonder House Books

Who is it for?

Choose this edition for readers aged 8 to 12 who need an easier way into Shakespeare. The book is in English, runs 88 pages, and belongs to the Shakespeare’s Greatest Stories: Abridged & Illustrated series, which makes it a manageable choice for children beginning classic literature.

Consider it for older beginners too. One reviewer who bought the book for siblings aged 11 and 13 said the content felt suitable and accessible for young readers meeting Shakespearean drama for the first time.

What makes it different?

Look to this paperback when you want more than a shortened retelling. Along with an abridged, illustrated version of the play, the book includes review questions and an introduction to the themes in the story.

Use that added structure for reading support at home or in class. The questions give children a way to revisit what happened, while the themes section makes it easier to talk about the ideas behind the plot instead of stopping at summary alone.

What do buyers say?

Expect straightforward language that reviewers say children can follow. Buyers describe the book as a good introduction to Shakespeare, and one detailed review says the language feels simple while the illustrations keep the reading experience lively.

Note one common point honestly: a reviewer mentions that the cast can feel confusing at first. Readers also say the story becomes much easier to enjoy once the characters are clear, which is where the simpler language and illustrated format seem to help.

When would you use it?

Use this edition for shorter reading sessions, guided discussion, or a first pass through a well-known play before moving to fuller Shakespeare text. The 88-page length suits children who read in small chunks and adults who want a compact teaching copy.

Read it for independent practice, sibling reading, or classroom preparation. Reviews show that young readers respond well when the story, visuals, and discussion prompts work together instead of leaving them to untangle the play on their own.
